CASPER MARTINEZ: NYC Native Stars In Carlito’s Way
NEW FACES
New York – Actor/Producer Casper Martinez stars as Colorado in the upcoming Martin Bregman film Carlito’s Way Rise to Power.
“Landing the part was great, but what excited me the most was the ensemble cast of talented actors that worked on this project. Jay Hernandez was focused—he came to the set and did his thing,” says Martinez.
The film reveals the early years of Carlito Brigante, the tragic hero of the 1993 Brian De Palma cult classic Carlito’s Way (1993). Martinez brings to life the Spanish Harlem hoodlum Colorado, who faithfully backs up his childhood friend Carlito Brigante (Jay Hernandez).
Martinez made his big-screen debut as C.O. Vilar alongside Mary J. Blige and Q-Tip in the feature Prison Song, and recently worked in El Vacilón The Movie. In 2002 he starred in and co-produced the award-winning independent feature Manito (Sundance Best Ensemble Cast in a Feature Award, Tribeca Film Festival Best Emerging Filmmaker Award).
Carlito’s Way Rise to Power (Universal and Rogue Pictures) will be available on DVD September 27th and released in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles September 30, 2005. Like its predecessor, Carlito’s Way: Rise to Power was adapted from the critically acclaimed novels by Edwin Torres. It was directed by Michael Bregman and produced by Martin Bregman, acclaimed producer of Scarface and Carlito’s Way.
In addition to film, Casper has produced and served as special correspondent of the award-winning national television program Urban Latino TV and the variety show Viva America.
