One Long Night Opens WorldFest-Houston Intl Film Fest
Houston, TX -- WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival (now it’s 40th year!) continues its tradition this year with its dedication to independent film screening from April 20 - 29, 2007. David Siquieros’ recently completed One Long Night which stars Jon Seda, Ed Begley, Jr., Pedro Armendariz, Jr., Karen Black, and Alison Eastwood will open the festival at The AMC Stidop - 2949 Dunvale at 8:00 p.m.
WorldFest premieres films with a complete and absolute emphasis on the American and International Independent feature films and with a continuing annual spotlight on an individual country and its films. In addition WorldFest offers competition in TV Production, Documentary, Corporate & Business Films, Student & Experimental, TV Commercials, Film & Video Production, Music Videos, New Media (Interactive & Web Sites), Screenplays, Print and Radio.
“We are thrilled to be opening at WorldFest. We just started doing the festival circuit beginning with the Guadalajara Film Festival in Mexico last month, and already we have interest from some of the biggest U.S. distributors,” said writer/producer and director David Siqueiros.
One Long Night, as is the case with many independent films, has been a long time coming. Getting the financing was literally a “work of art”. After production funds fell out…yet again, Siqueiros, owner of several David Alfaro Siqueiros’ (his uncle) pieces of art sold them to finally begin shooting his film. In the time it took to secure funding, his talent kept falling in and out of place. In the end however, Siqueiros feels the cast, headed by Jon Seda (Selena, Bad Boys II) is his dream cast which includes some of the finest talent from Mexico and the U.S. Screening to a packed room at the Guadalajara Film Festival last month, it seems Siqueiros others agree.
Set in 1994 at the height of California Governor Pete Wilson's administration, during the ugly struggle over a controversial proposition that tore apart the Mexican and Anglo American communities—One Long Night is the story of a simple, conservative, half-Mexican half-Scottish businessman, Richard Macedo (Seda) trying to survive an insane night lost in Mexico City among the drag queens, crooked cops, gangsters and femme fatales. As he tries desperately to get back to what he calls civilization, Richard learns amazing things about his character, about his Mexican heritage, and about the father he’s never known.
In addition to Seda the cast includes Paul Rodriguez (Ali), Itati Cantoral, Oscar nominated actress Karen Black, Ed Begley Jr. , Alison Eastwood, Pedro Armendariz Jr., Alison Eastwood, , and Norteno music singer Lupillo Rivera.
