George Lopez’ weeknight talk show got off to an encouraging start, especially amongst the all-important key demographic of adults 18 to 49, and with a double-boost by one-time-only simulcasts on TruTV and TNT.
Lopez Tonight averaged 1.7 million viewers overall on its ‘home base’ of TBS, and pulled in another 1.5 million on the other Turner-owned nets. But its TBS numbers alone generated more than a million sets of eyes in the 18-49 demo, with more than 60% of those in the particularly attractive 18-34 segment. Put in perspective, those kinds of numbers outperform the season-to-date averages for popular programs like The Daily Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live. And those under-35 numbers are right up there with Letterman’s.
Lopez Tonight is now finishing its first week; Nielsen reports of the ratings for that first four-day strip will be available this weekend, and advertisers and rivals up and down the dial will be looking closely at the numbers. One thing seems certain: George Lopez has already proven that is talk show is a force to be reckoned with. And Latin Heat will be following the story as it develops...
