Getting through high school is traumatizing enough for a kid in the regular world, but imagine facing those awkward teenage years in a land of superheroes, especially when you seem to be the only kid without any powers to begin with.
Sky High, directed by Mike Mitchell and due for a wide release on July 29th 2005 by Walt Disney Pictures, is an adventurous action movie about Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano), the son of legendary superheroes The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston), struggling to uphold the family tradition and prove himself as a “hero” at the elite superpower high school Sky High. To make his freshman year even more problematic, he doesn’t have any superpowers of his own. Girl problems will be the least of Will’s worries when an evil villain threatens Sky High, and it’s up to him to save the day.
This adventurous storyline, Sky High was written by Paul Hernandez (along with Robert Schooley and Mark McCorkle), a screenwriter from Houston. Aspiring to be a filmmaker, Hernandez began his career in the mailroom at Disney and then joined DreamWorks studio as a production assistant. It was there that he pitched his first script, Instant Karma. He then returned to Disney as a writer and with a buzz around Sky High. Hernandez, is currently working on the animated film Mucha Lucha: The Movie and has another script currently in production at New Line entitled Mortimer West, as well as the script for the future film Stardate. With multiple scripts in production, it is safe to say that Hernandez has officially made it in Hollywood.
