Military Veteran & Mother of Dual-Sensory Impaired Child to Deliver Keynote at Infant Development Association Conference on Friday at the Westin Pasadena

— Graciela Tiscareño-Sato will reflect on parenting a child with disabilities for 16 years to inspire early intervention service providers in Southern California —

PASADENA, CA - March 22, 2018 - (HISPANICIZE WIRE) - Gracefully Global Group is pleased to announce that Founder Graciela Tiscareño-Sato was invited to deliver a unique parent perspective to kick off the two-day Infant Development Association (IDA) conference in Pasadena. IDA is a community that hears and responds to the voices of those working and living with young children with special needs.

To celebrate the conference theme “Intervention and Beyond: Building Foundations For the Future” Ms. Tiscareño-Sato will present her keynote titled ”Walk With Me: The Early Invention Advice & Experiences That Mattered to Our Family” at 0830 a.m. Friday.

Ms. Tiscareño-Sato served for over nine years as a military officer and aviator in the U.S. Air Force. 18 months after leaving the active duty service, she gave birth to a one pound two ounce baby at 25 weeks gestation and spent 137 days in the NICU after her daughter’s birth.

“That book about what to expect they give to pregnant women? It proved totally useless to me when my baby was born the size of a toad,” said the speaker. “We went home with a baby who survived five surgeries, was blind because her retinas detached and she was still attached to an oxygen tank. The early intervention community of experts who came into our home was instrumental in guiding us as overwhelmed, first-time parents. They helped maximize our baby’s development in those first three years. More importantly, they empowered us for the long-term advocacy required to help our child become the best version of herself. I’m excited to share experiences, ideas and resources that IDA attendees can implement as they serve families in this region.”

When her daughter was five years old, Ms. Tiscareño-Sato was asked to present a bilingual English/Spanish workshop at a conference for teachers and parents of children who are blind. Understanding the need for powerful voices of parents in educator communities, she and her husband created educational DVDs to inspire other parents. She’s on a mission to help parents navigate the special needs journey through the school years. Tiscareño-Sato has also authored award-winning bilingual children’s books inspired by her aviation service story. As a result, Ms. Tiscareño-Sato has become a sought-after speaker invited to serve a variety of audiences at educational conferences, school and libraries and universities.

The conference site is here. The conference venue is located at The Westin Pasadena, 191 N. Los Robles Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101.

Ms. Tiscareño-Sato will also present a workshop on Saturday titled Letting Your Child’s Wild Side Out as seen here.
