MIAMI, FL – April 29, 2015 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) - Gardenia Films in collaboration with Miami Dade College (MDC) Museum of Art + Design and Malecon Productions present RUM & COKE by performer and filmmaker Carmen Peláez. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the theatrical performances will be presented and filmed on Friday, May 8th and Saturday May 9th both at 8pm at the Museum, located within the College’s historic Freedom Tower.

In RUM & COKE Pain is funny. Separation, death, humiliation, all of it fodder for the characters Camila encounters on her trip to Havana via Miami in this ferociously comic and moving tale about life seen through the Cuban lens.

Carmen Peláez has performed RUM & COKE to raves in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and New York Off-Broadway receiving critical acclaim by the NY Times, NY Daily News, W magazine photographed by Bruce Weber, The Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun, The Villager, The Westsider, Diario de las Americas, Vanidades and has been featured on Nightline With Ted Koppel.

Tickets are $25 per person / $20 for MOA+D members, $10 for students. Seating is limited and audience members will participate in a live recording at each performance.

About Carmen Pelaez
Carmen was born in Miami to Cuban parents and is the grandniece of the revered painter Amelia Pelaez and radio star Ernesto Galindo. Now based in Brooklyn, she continues her family's artistic expression in film, on stage and in her writing.

In 2012, Carmen won the HBO New York International Latino Film Festival Short Film Competition with The Acting Lesson, which she followed up with her second short, A Queen without His Crown. Most recently she was featured in Steven Soderbergh’s SIDE EFFECTS and has written op-eds for The New York Times, Huffington Post and NBC News Latino. Currently Ms. Peláez is in development with her first feature screenplay OCHO, a collaboration with artist Luis Gispert.
