Spain’s “Blancanieves” (Snow White) Pays Homage to Silent Cinema

Spain has submitted for Oscar’s Foreign-Language Film category an “out-of-the-box” version of the Snow White fairy tale. It is being described as a homage to the black-and-white Golden Age of Europe’s silent cinema, Blancanieves stars Macarena Garcia as Carmen and Maribel Verdu as her stepmother Encarna. Film is directed by Pablo Berger opens January 25th.

The silent movie, in our opinion is genius, and the buzz is that it is better than The Artist, the 2012 Oscar darling. Hmm, we shall see how Oscar responds to Blancanieves.
