Actress Raquel Welch, Orange is the New Black’s Dascha Polanco and Mexican television star Eugenio Derbez have been selected to be honored at theNational Association of Latino Independent Producers 16th Annual Media Award which will be held on June 27 at the W Hotel in Hollywood as part of the NALIP Media Summit. HBO is the title sponsor of the four day event that consists of panels, workshops, screenings and showcases and the awards.
Welch will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award while Polanco, the Dominican-American who plays Dayanara Diaz on Orange is the New Black, will receive the Lupe Award, named after the late actress Lupe Ontiveros. Derbez will receive the Outstanding Achievement Award, for his success with his feature film Instructions Not Included, which has become the most successful Spanish-language film in the U.S. and internationally.
“We are tremendously excited by the collective achievements of this year’s honorees,” NALIP Executive Director Axel Caballero said in a statement. “No one likes to use the word ‘legend’ lightly, but it only begins to describe Raquel Welch.” Past recipients include Sofía Vergara, Kenny Ortega and Salma Hayek.
Also honored will be Roberto Llamas, EVP of Human Resources and Community Empowerment at Univision, Roberto Llamas, who will be receive the Media Advocacy Award. Former NALIP board member, Rick Ramirez, who is currently SVP of Targeted Marketing for Warner Bros., will be given the Industry Pioneer Award.
