Casting Call: “Zoot Suit” Play

Zoot SuitThe 40th anniversary of “ZOOT SUIT” will be presented at the Mark Taper Forum in January 2017.

A revival of this historic piece based on the real-life Zoot Suit Riots and Sleepy Lagoon Murder Trial is being produced by the Center Theatre Group and El Teatro Campesino and will be directed by the legendary Luis Valdez.
SETTING:  The play is set in 1943, a time of duck tails, pompadours and red lipstick. 

Casting is seeking Hispanic talent for several roles in the following age ranges:

“EL PACHUCO” – 28 to 38 year old, Hispanic male

NOTE: Ability to do a Chicano/East LA accent a MUST

HENRY REYNA, ISMAEL “SMILEY” TORRES, JOEY CASTRO -18 to 25 years old, Hispanic male

TOMMY ROBERTS – 21 to 25 year old, Caucasian male

PACHUCA TRIO – 21 to 25 years old, African American, Asian, Hispanic, West Indies/Caribbean females NOTE: Preferably all TRIO characters must have a vocal range of Soprano or Alto and be able to dance.

DELLA BARRIOS, ELENA TORRES, BERTHA VILLARREAL – 18 to 25 years old, Hispanic female

NOTE:  Please submit 18+ to play younger.

LUPE REYNA – 16 years old, Hispanic female

NOTE:  Please submit 18+ to play younger.

RUDY REYNA – 19 years old, Hispanic male

NOTE:  Please submit 18+ to play younger.


DANCERS AND SINGERS- Male and Female all ethnicities, Age 21-28

NOTE:  This is a play with music and dance. ALL talent MUST have the ability to move and/or dance.

NOTE:  All Hispanic characters should be able to do a Chicano/East L.A. accent.
