The East of Broadway Spring Season will take place and is opening next week with The Vault: Bankrupt. This year marks our 6th year as operators of the The LATC and we have overcome many challenges and obstacles to produce our most ambitious year of programming to date. The East of Broadway Spring Season opening next week presents a series of plays that are not only diverse in their representation of the communities that make up Los Angeles, but also in addressing major issue affecting us all. 1917 – Texas, the Black 24th infantry are bivouacked nearby and after constant conflict and confrontation with the white civilians and Houston police the 24th marches on the town. What happens next is history…
A mother lives alone in the darkness. A father struggles to forget a lost war. A son battles in the streets of urban America. A daughter searches for answers in her community. Refugee Nation is about a young generation struggling to understand their history and the silence of an elder generation still healing form the traumas of war. What can we learn from the wounds of a war over 30 years ago in the hope to find healing? (Based on the stories of Laotian refugees in the U.S.) After touring the country for over 5 years, Refugee Nation is proud be returning home to premiere the completed work for the first time in Los Angeles.
